Frequently Asked Questions: the Answers
1. Who may purchase a Explorer Series Plan?
Explorer Series Plans are only available for: 1) citizens or residents of the United States or Canada; 2) trips of 30 days or less duration and 3) trips costing $25,000 or less per person ($10,000 or less for Student Plans). Eligibility for purchase will be confirmed on all claims. If it is determined that a person or trip is not eligible for coverage as detailed above, any claim for benefits will be denied and the premium will be refunded.
2. Should the traveler include in the insured Trip Cost the value of any certificate, voucher or discount used to purchase the Trip?
Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits (Trip Cancellation not available on Basic Plan) cover prepaid expenses for Travel Arrangements for a trip made by cash, check or credit card. Payments made in the form of a certificate, voucher or discount are not covered by the plan and should not be included in the insured trip cost.
3. What are Pre-Existing Conditions and can a Pre-Existing Condition be covered by the Explorer Series Plans?
Medical Conditions during the 60 day period immediately prior to the Effective Date for which the Insured or the Insured’s Traveling Companion: 1) exhibited symptoms which would have caused one to seek care or treatment; or 2) received or received a recommendation for a test, examination, or medical treatment or 3) took or received a prescription for drugs or medicine. Item (3) of this definition does not apply to a condition which is treated or controlled solely through the taking of prescription drugs or medicine and remains treated or controlled without any adjustment or change in the required prescription throughout the 60 day period before the Effective Date Click here for complete details about Pre-Existing Conditions.

IMPORTANT!
- The policy exclusion for Pre-Existing Conditions will be waived if the traveler's premium is received at or before the final payment due date for the trip.
4. What if a traveler doesn't want to take a Trip because of terrorist Incident?
The Explorer Series Plans that include Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Benefits, allow a traveler to cancel or interrupt a Trip due to a Terrorist Incident, provided the Terrorist Incident occurs in a city listed on the Insured’s Covered Trip itinerary and within thirty (30) days prior to his/her Scheduled Departure Date. (This same city must not have experienced a Terrorist Incident within the ninety (90) days prior to the Terrorist Incident that is causing the cancellation of the Insured’s Covered Trip. Benefits are not provided if the Travel Supplier offers a substitute itinerary. The Insured’s Scheduled Departure Date must be no more than twenty-four (24) months beyond the Effective Date).
5. What if inclement weather is predicted where the group plans to travel? Will the Explorer Series Plans cover a traveler if he or she cancels his or her Trip?
The Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Benefits (Trip Cancellation not available on Basic Plan) do not provide coverage if the traveler cancels or interrupts his or her Trip based upon what might happen.
6. What happens if bags do not arrive at the destination on time?
The Explorer Series Plans cover baggage delays of more than 12 hours during the Trip. A traveler will be reimbursed for personal articles purchased, such as toiletries, a change of clothing, etc., up to the amount shown in the Schedule. Be sure the traveler keeps the receipts for any items purchased.

7. If a traveler cancels his or her Trip and there are no cancellation penalties, is his or her premium refundable?
If the Group Explorer Travel Protection Plan has been sold on an inclusive basis (i.e. you answered yes to all three questions when you created the group and you are located in a state that does not prohibit inclusive sales), then a traveler's premium may be refunded at any time prior to payment being submitted for the group, provided there are no cancellation penalties from suppliers or fees imposed by you at the time of cancellation. If the Group Explorer Travel Protection Plan has been sold on an elective basis, then the traveler's premium is non-refundable once paid. The group enrollment processing fee is non-refundable.
8. If a traveler requires medical care while on the Trip, are his or her medical bills covered?
The Explorer Series Plans provide coverage up to the plan limits for medical expenses resulting from an sickness or injury during the Trip. If a traveler must be medically evacuated to another facility or home, these costs are also covered. Click here for complete details of this coverage.
The Company will pay benefits up to the maximum shown on the Confirmation of Coverage if the Insured incurs Covered Medical Expenses as a result of Emergency Treatment of an Accidental Injury that occurs or Sickness that first manifests itself during the Covered Trip.
Emergency Treatment: means necessary medical treatment, including services and supplies, which must be performed during the Covered Trip due to the serious and acute nature of the Accidental Injury or Sickness.
Covered Medical Expenses: means necessary services and supplies that are recommended by the attending Physician. They include but are not limited to: (a) the services of a Physician; (b) charges for Hospital confinement and use of operating rooms; (c) charge for anesthetics (including administration); X-ray examinations or treatments, and laboratory tests; (d) ambulance service; and (e) drugs, medicines, prosthetics and therapeutic services and supplies.
The Company will not pay benefits in excess of the Reasonable and Customary charges. Reasonable and Customary charges: mean charges commonly used by Physicians in the locality in which care is furnished. The Company will not cover any expenses provided by another party at no cost to the Insured or already included within the cost of the Covered Trip.
The Company will pay benefits, up to $750, for emergency dental treatment for Accidental Injury to sound natural teeth. The Company will advance payment to a Hospital, up to the maximum shown on the Confirmation of Coverage, if needed to secure the Insured’s admission to a Hospital because of an Accidental Injury or Sickness.
If the Insured is hospitalized due to an Accidental Injury or Sickness which first occurred during the course of the scheduled Covered Trip beyond the date of the Scheduled Return Date, coverage will be extended until You are released from the Hospital or until maximum benefits under the Policy have been paid.
The Explorer Series Plans have a service, Global Xpi, which allows a treating physician access to the traveler's medical records online. With Global Xpi, information such as medicine allergies, current medications and conditions, physician and insurance information is accessible in emergency situations wherever internet or telephone service is available. 9. If a travel supplier ceases operations or become financially insolvent, is the traveler covered?
The Explorer Series Plans that include Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption benefits, provide coverage due to Bankruptcy or Default of an airline, cruise line, tour operator or travel supplier (other than the tour operator or travel agency from whom Travel Arrangements were purchased), provided the Bankruptcy and/or Default of the Insured’s Travel Supplier occurs more than fourteen (14) days following Your Effective Date. Coverage is not provided for the Bankruptcy or Default of the agency from whom the Insured purchased the Land/Sea Arrangements. (The Insured’s Scheduled Departure Date must be no more than twenty-four (24) months beyond the Effective Date. Benefits will be paid due to Bankruptcy or Default of an airline only if no alternate transportation is available. If alternate transportation is available, benefits will be limited to the change fee charged to allow the Insured to transfer to another airline in order to get to his/her intended destination).
10. Do the Explorer Series Plans cover frequent flyer miles?
Frequent flyer miles are not covered under the Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Benefits. If a traveler cancels his or her Trip for a covered reason, he or she will only be reimbursed the money actually paid for the Trip.
11. What if a traveler doesn't want this insurance?
If the Explorer Series Plan is sold on an inclusive basis, then all travelers must be insured. If a Explorer Series Plan is sold on an elective basis, then the traveler may elect not to purchase the plan. Under the Agent Tools Menu, we include a sample Declination Waiver which we recommend you have a traveler sign if he or she is declining coverage. This is for your protection.
